During our week in AndalucĆa, it wasn’t in our plans to visit Sevilla, but my boyfriend had never been to Sevilla and I couldn’t leave without showing him the city! Here is my #artroute for one day in Sevilla:

ree

1.First Stop: Plaza EspaƱa.

- In order to get the most out of Sevilla in one day, wake up as early as you can! Around 8 am you should be walking through Maria Luisa’s gardens before entering the Plaza to enjoy the beautiful park. (If you don't have time, you can skip the park and enter the Plaza from one of its corners)

2. Second Stop: Paseo Colon and Triana’s Bridge.

- If you rent your own car, do a quick car ride through ā€œPaseo Colonā€, admire the beautiful Triana's bridge and the buildings at the edge of the water. If you don’t have a car, you can rent a horse carriage’s rides (I did it once and I loved it).

ree

3. Third Stop: Real Alcazar

ree

- Wake up as early as you can to visit Real Alcazar when it opens at 9:30 am. It is worth the visit! You will take around 3 hours to complete the entire visit, so bring comfortable shoes!

What you should know:

A magnificent marriage of Christian and MudĆ©jar architecture, Seville’s royal palace complex is a breathtaking spectacle. The site, which was originally developed as a fort in 913, has been revamped many times over the 11 centuries of its existence, most spectacularly in the 14th century when King Pedro added the sumptuous Palacio de Don Pedro, still today the AlcĆ”zar’s crowning glory. More recently, the AlcĆ”zar featured as a location for the Game of Thrones TV series.

Note that long entry queues are the norm here.

To cut waiting time, it pays to pre-purchase tickets at www.alcazarsevilla.org.

4ļø. Fourth Stop: Barrio de Santa Cruz.

- Get lost in this neighborhood. Walk as much as you can, specifically to Mateo Gago’s street, where you will find many beautiful restaurants and bars, I recommend ā€œBar Las Columnasā€ to eat the typical Spanish food. (FYI: This street is currently under construction, so we couldn’t see that much, but back in February it was amazingly beautiful).

ree

5. Fifth Stop: Constitucion Avenue.

- Walk the ā€œConstituciónā€ avenue where you will see La Catedral and La Giralda’s facade. I love this avenue; it has many beautiful buildings and restaurants. Stop by El Banco de EspaƱa’s square and El ayuntamiento’s square and enjoy a drink in one of these bars.

ree

6ļø. Sixth Stop: El Salvador Church.

ree

- Not only it is crazy beautiful outside and inside, but you can also buy the tickets for La Catedral+Giralda inside this church without doing any lines (€5 student, €10 general). Outside the church, you will find ā€œEl Salvadorā€ square filled with bars and people drinking and eating.

(FYI: for some reason today this church was closed due to COVID measures even though it said it was open outside and in google maps)

7. Seventh Stop: Las Setas.

ree

- Walk up to ā€œLas Setas de Sevillaā€ and enjoy its beautiful architecture and views at the top ($5 each unless you are a resident)

What you should know:

The Metropol Parasol, popularly known as the Mushrooms of the Incarnation, is a wooden structure with 2 concrete columns that hold the access elevators to the viewpoint and is located in the central Plaza de la Encarnación in the city of Seville. It measures 150 x 70 meters and is approximately 26 meters high. It was the winning project in the competition opened by the Seville City Council to carry out the renovation of the square in which it is located; its designer was the architect from Berlin, Jürgen Mayer. The structure consists of six large, mushroom-shaped parasols, whose design is inspired by the arches of Seville's cathedral and the ¨ficus¨ of nearby Plaza del Cristo de Burgos. All in all, it has five levels. The upper level contains a lookout point and a panoramic route that covers most of the area.

ree

8. Eight Stop: Catedral + La Giralda.

- Finally, walk back to La Catedral and La Giralda and

walk up the 36 ramps to see the amazing views from the top! Inside La Catedral, you will find Cristobal Colon’s tomb.

9. Ninth Stop: Alfonso XIII hotel

- Before you go, stop to see its beautiful interior to wrap up your trip!

ree

Extra: If you are looking for another great place to have lunch or dinner, I recommend having lunch at Lobo Lopez Tapas. Excellent food, ambiance, and service.

I highly recommend avoiding Sevilla during the summer, especially August. Asides from the high heat, the city is empty and almost everything is closed. To enjoy Sevilla the most, you should during February-May or October-November
